The Newsroom

So seems like I haven't been doing anything but...
Before I get into what I've been working on lately, here is a poll that you all might enjoy!
Which ibbit would you like to come next?

Taylor and I have the first 3 ibbit species' artwork pretty much complete, but I wanted to reach out to you guys for the fourth ibbit to return. Let me know out of these four which you guys would prefer. In case anybody is fuzzy about which species these are exactly (it's been a long time, I don't blame you!) Flake is the arctic dog with silver swirlies, Tsuki is the psychic red fox, Kijuu is the six-legged squirrel thing, and Koumori is the fiesty little bat with huge ears.

I've actually been quite busy working on ibbits, but it's all stuff that you guys can't really see, such as stats for items and all sorts of nitty gritty coding stuff so I'll just briefly go over a few fun things I've been working on so you all know I've been up to. Above are some random items I've been working on. The carrots are very colorful! They come in orange, pink, purple, red, and yellow. The little hat is the item version of the hood you see on the child Ghostling. And that mysterious piece of paper is a .README, which I'm pretty excited about. .README's are going to be the ibbits version of books. Here's a preview of what .README's look like when they are read. I used my magic graphic design student skills to adjust the line length and text spacing so that it will be more comfortable to read than the wall of text that books used to be.

Mostly the kind of stuff I've been working on is boring but necessary to make a site like this. I've been making a lot of charts and figuring out how the stats for items, pets, and all sorts of other things are going to work. I'm currently working on the item and shop systems (which may actually be up before the pets... XD;;). I'm actually really excited about these features so I'll go ahead and let you guys in on a few particularly interesting things I'm developing.

You will actually be able to talk and get to know shopkeepers (you know, like Miffy from Fresh Foods Market on SBP). The more you visit their stores and buy things from them the more the shopkeepers will remember/like you. Eventually you'll be able to ask them about goings on about town, do quests for them, or just get to know some basic backstory about the character and about the city in general. Getting to know the shopkeepers will also have benefits too. For example, they may tell you about certain promotions or coupons that they wouldn't have if they didn't know you. You'll also be able to ask when specific items stock in their shop. Overall I think this will really bring the game to life and add another layer of complexity. I'm also working on restaraunts and cooking (yes, cooking!). I'm pulling out all the stops this time.

Okay, I think I'll stop my ramblings for now. I'll leave you with this...Ghostlings in hats!

Sneak Peek: Ghostling Child!

Here's a sneak peek of the male/female Ghostling child sprites! The last one is wearing a "Patched Ghostling Hood." The adult image is almost complete as well. These little ghosties were drawn by yours truly, and Taylor is working on another species as we speak. Hope you like them and the new style that we're going for. I'll post some more Ghostling clothing options/variations in the next couple of days.

Login Session Problem Resolved
I figured out what I was doing wrong with the login sessions, so now when you login your default time to actually stay logged in is 3 days instead of when you close your browser. Hopefully this will work out for everyone! I was researching into making a 'keep me logged in' sort of thing, but it really compromises site security so hopefully this will work out. You may have to login one more time to get the new longer session. I just tested it on my browser and it works, but if you're having any problems still let me know. Hopefully this will save you guys some time.

Search bar and increased login sessions
I'm sure some of you have already noticed this, but there's now a search bar underneath Users Online. So far, you can only search usernames, but if you want to look somebody up quickly this will make it a lot easier. If you want to be an invisible ninja you can opt not to show up in searches by changing your Privacy Settings.

Also, I'm not sure if this will work yet, but I changed the server configuration so that your login sessions should last about two days. I'm not 100% sure if these changes have taken affect yet. If it still seems like I'm getting logged out all the time I'll see about adding a 'keep me logged in' feature, but hopefully this quick fix will help a bit.

Privacy Settings
I don't really want to overshadow the unveiling of datagrams, but I also completed a few more useful updates today. You can now change various privacy settings. Just go to your preferences and click 'Privacy' to show the various options. So far you can hide your online status, choose not to show in the User Directory, choose whether or not to show up in search results, who can send you datagrams, and whether or not to show your age on your profile. For security reasons staff members can always see all of this sort of information, but to a regular member you can become an invisible ninja! To update your privacy settings click here.
